Noho
A visual arts residency for French-Pacific artists
Established in 2025 by the Embassy of France in New Zealand and Massey University's College of Creative Arts, this visual arts residency focus on the artists from the French Pacific.
This residency aims to create time and space for artists to experiment, make connections, exchanges ideas and collaborate.
Practitioners are offered an engaging and supportive environment to create innovative, high-quality contemporary work, while also building connections and encouraging ongoing collaboration and exchange.


Context
Wellington, New Zealand’s creative capital, boasts a lively cultural landscape, home to a wealth of art galleries, the Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts, the World of WearableArt Awards, the CubaDupa Street Festival, and outstanding public and research libraries.
Noho, a live/work studio suite, is ideally situated on Wellington’s waterfront, just moments from the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi.
What to expect
Noho art residency traditionnally runs for a four-week period from the end of September to the end of October.
We invite artists from the french Pacific working in all mediums, such as painting, sculpture, textiles and video. This includes those working in customary and contemporary practices at any stage of their career.
The residency offers time and space for exploration, experimentation, community engagement, idea exchange, and collaboration.
The resident is provided with a live/work studio suite, access to Massey University’s facilities, technical support, and a production budget. A living allowance and return airfare from their home base are also included.

Profile
Applications are open to contemporary visual artists, from French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna. Fluency in English is required.
Applications are reviewed based upon the quality of the proposed project and past works as well as the applicant's public speaking skills and abilities to engage with the community.
Artists are encouraged to submit a selection of 10 images that show the scope of their practice, a bio and a short paragraph on how this residency will impact their career.
The next round of applications will open in March 2026.
