Cinematic Arts Miramar

A screen artist residency

In partnership with Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington, the Embassy of France launched the inaugural Cinematic Arts Miramar (CAM) residency in 2023.

 

The residency is designed for French screen-based artists, specialising in cinema animation and gaming, across a wide range of areas such as character design, 3D odelling, lighting, simulation, 2D animation, XR, directing or screenwriting, and more.

What to expect

The CAM residency takes place in the second half of the year for a period of finve to six weeks.

The resident has access to a workstation at the the Miramar Creative Centre, along with the centre's state-of-the-art facilities, and the University's wider range of campuses around Wellington, and events.

 

The resident is provided with return flights from their home base, accomodation at the historic Sexton Cottage in central Wellington, and a living allowance.

Context

A Unesco city of film, Wellington is the  heart of New Zealand cinema, with film festivals and studios including Weta Group in Miramar - founded by Peter Jackson, Richard Taylor and Jamie Selkirk.

 

Miramar Creative Centre is located amongst the Weta Group buildings on Park Road, Miramar , and offers exceptional opportunities for hands-on experience and professional connections in New Zealand's globally renowned film, animation , and gamin design industries.

Profile

The residency invites applications from established practitioners, either French or based in France for at least five  years, who are either mid or late-career professionals, with significant contributions to their field. English proficiency is required.


Applications are evaluated on the potential for proposed projects to foster  collaboration between France and New Zealand and contribute to innovative audiovisual and cinematic creation.​

Applications open in late March 2025.
